Step III Interviewing a professional
Get the students to summarize how to choose useful information and how to write an article about a professional. Then they will learn more about the way of interviewing a professional and what they need to do to prepare for it.
T: Now who can tell us what we need to do before we write an article about a professional?
S: We need to collect information about the professional. We’d better choose the materials that are connected with the profession and his success. And then we can discuss in which parts we will describe the professional.
T: Good idea! Now suppose you are a news reporter and you will interview a professional person. You’ll need to find how he / she achieved his / her position and create a wall display to show your classmates what you have found out. We can divide the task into four steps.
1. Planning
T: There are some examples of professionals you may find in your school or neighborhood. You can choose one to interview or if you would like to choose some others, tell me. Before you make a decision, think about what interesting information you can find so that your wall display will look interesting. Choose your partners and work in groups of four or more and decide who will be responsible for each task. Then begin your discussion about the tasks listed on page 59.
