Step II Reading (1)
Talk about Howard Carter first, and get them to say something about mummies. Then they will read a conversation between George and Dick about Egyptian mummies and learn some background information about it.
T: Earnest Hemingway is an amazing person. What about Howard Carter? Do you still remember him?
S1: Yes. He is one of the most famous explorers.
T: What did he do?
S2: He searched for the tombs of the Egyptian kings with his team.
T: What did they find in the tombs?
S3: They found jewels, gold and the preserved bodies of dead kings. They took everything found in the tombs as well as the mummies.
T: Among them, the preserved bodies known as mummies always arouse the curiosity and interest of scientists. Why and how did the Egyptians preserve the bodies of people? Why did Howard Carter take away the mummies? Now read the conversation and find out the answers to the questions about Egyptian mummies.
Ask the students to work in pairs and role play the dialogue.
Step III Reading (2)
In this step, the students will read an e-mail from Rainer to Mike. Rainer tells Mike about what he knows about Albert Einstein. They should be able to answer some questions.
T: If you have any difficult problems and find them hard to solve. Who will you turn to?
S1: I will ask my friends to help me or I can write to newspapers to ask for help.
S2: We can also write to our e-pals.
