Topic 1 Vegetarians are healthier than people who eat meat
I don’t agree that vegetarians are healthier than people who eat meat. For example, a diet consisting of chips and bananas is vegetarian, but few people would consider such a diet very healthy. On the other hand, a diet that includes plenty of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and a good source of calcium like low-fat dairy products is healthy. Although vegetarian diets can be healthy, nutritional awareness is important. It’s reported that vegetarian teens often do not get enough minerals such as calcium, iron and zinc.
I see things slightly differently. I agree that vegetarians are healthier than people who eat meat. Most studies show that vegetarians have about a per cent lower risk of death from heart disease than meat-eaters. Fewer vegetarians are overweight. A vegetarian diet represents a major health benefit because fruits and vegetables supply a lot of vitamins and fibre.
