1．They have a small apartment on the third floor of a five—storey apartment block.
apartment，flat—指大厦中的住宅单位，前者也被译为“（住宅）公寓”。不过，东南亚地区目前流行用“座”来表达，故使用flat的机会较多。floor，storey这两个名词都可表示楼房的“层”，但含义有区别。floor表示房间的“地板、地面”，建筑物的“楼层”。例如：
There was a dog lying on the floor.有一条狗躺在地板上。
He lives on the third floor. 他住在3楼。［（英）4楼］
Storey（英）＝story（美）表示“楼层”，指层与层之间的空间。如：
He lives in a house of two storms.他住的是2层楼的房子。
The family lives on the third story.这一家人住在3楼。
Our lab is on the third floor of a six—story building.
我们的实验室在一幢6层楼房的第3层。
注意，在表示“第几楼（层）”时，英国英语和美国英语的表达是不同的。在英国，the ground floor指一层楼，the first floor指二层楼，the second floor指三层楼，以此类推；在美国一层楼称为the first floor，二层楼称为the second floor，以此类推。我国的表达法同美国英语的表达是一致的。
2．The house is two storeys high and is made of local stone.
be made of／from意为“由……制成”。在制成品中看不出原材料，用from；原料未改变，在制成品中仍看得出原材料，用of。如：
The table is made of wood. 这桌子是用木头做的。
