Period 4 Listening and Speaking
整体设计
教学内容分析   
The emphasis of this period will be placed on listening and speaking.There are altogether three texts for the students to listen to in this period:one is in the Student's Book and the other two a re in the Workbook.The first one(on Page 7,Listening and speaking)is a conversation among three friends,Gao Yan,John and Susan,who are on holiday in New York.They are talking about the art galleries they would like to visit.While listening to the dialogue for the first time the students are asked to get some specific information about it and answer seven wh-questions.After listening to the second part of the dialogue for the second time the students are asked to talk about the characters of Gao Yan,John and Susan.Then the students are asked to tell what attitude each of the three friends has to modern art.At last the students are asked to give their own points of view and attitudes towards the galleries in New York in a certain situation to show their own preference,using the expressions about preference given in the box on Page 7.
The second one(on Page 41,Listening)is a conversation among three classmates,Steve Lee,Wang Pei and Xiao Wei.They are talking about what kind of present they would like to get for Mr Hang,their art teacher,before he leaves the school.And the third one(on Page 44,Listening Task)is a talk from Zhang Lin.He is talking about six Chinese artworks.

1To understand the meanings of the following key words and expressions while hearing them in the tape:traditional(传统的),abstract(抽象的),figurative(修饰丰富的),photography(照片),two-dimensional(两维的),sculpture(雕塑),pottery(陶器),wood carving(木雕),clay figures(泥塑),paper cutting(剪纸).
2.To enable the students to und erstand the listening texts.
3.To help the students learn how to express their preference.
