Next time your pet dog starts to pant (喘息) and pace (踱步) during a thunderstorm or when you have to leave for a day，you know separation anxiety is about to happen，and you should consider playing some music，but not just any music.According to a new study published in the journal of Physiology & Behavior，dogs prefer the sounds of reggae (雷盖音乐) or soft rock to any other type.
For the study，conducted by the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA)，researchers played five different types of music for shelter dogs.During the study，classical music，soft rock，reggae，pop music and Motown were played.While the dogs were listening，researchers took note of their heart rates，cortisol (皮质醇) levels and behavior.
It turns out that dogs are fans of Bob Marley，just like we do on our beach vacations，as results showed that dogs were less stressed while listening to soft rock or reggae.When they were listening to Motown，their stress levels were higher.
Based on the results of the study，researchers believe that dog owners can play reggae or soft rock music for their dogs during high stress situations.For dogs entering a shelter for the first time，the new surroundings will make them horrified，causing them to bark or shake，and dogs living at home can be fearful of loud noises when their owners leave.
This study discovered shelter dogs listening to classical music were more relaxed，barking less and lying down more.Unfortunately，the study also found that by the seventh day of listening to classical music，the dogs returned to restlessness.This led the researchers to believe that “the animals were getting used to the music，or possibly getting bored.” Those previous results are what led the researchers to try various types for the new study.
