资源简介
Susan Cottrell, a London, Ontario woman, was surprised and deeply moved last Friday when the Star handed her a package, containing a handmade darkgreen shawl(披肩). It was not just a piece of clothing, but also the thoughtfulness of a complete stranger named Katrina King, of Fort Collins, Colorado.
In a handwritten note with the gift, King wrote that she had read the Star’s Oct. 12 online article about the disappearance of Cottrell’s shawl. Cottrell had knit(编织) to keep calm while her husband, Carl Johnston, was stuck between life and death during a major surgery(外科手术). The shawl disappeared from Toronto General Hospital (TGH) in August.
“I’m sorry that your beautiful shawl has disappeared,”said the note, which Cottrell read aloud, sometimes pausing.“Someone may just see a pretty object... unless they understand a knitter very well. It doesn’t have a deeper meaning.”
King’s shawl was first sent to the Star, and the newspaper brought it to Cottrell at eweKnit on Markham St., where she teaches a class once a week. She immediately replaced the black shawl she was wearing with King’s creation.“It’s so beautiful. How very, very thoughtful,”said Cottrell.“I would give her such a big hug.”
Like Cottrell, it’s clear that King also likes to knit when going through tough times, which include watching her father recover from a heart attack in hospital and staying by her daughter’s side as she had tonsil(扁桃腺) surgery.
Cottrell said she is now focused on her husband’s recovery. After months spent between hospitals in London and Toronto, Johnston was sent home about two weeks ago.
“I cooked a meal for the two of us, the first time I’ve done that in six months,”said Cottrell, laughing, while still feeling her new shawl.
“It’s so beautiful. So, so beautiful.”
