College applications are submitted, and for some, it’ s time for interviews.
36 You might be pleasantly surprised to find that many college admissions staffers today are young, multicultural, and far from cranky. Colleges want you to like them, even if they don’ t accept you. So the interview is not a test.
Here are some tips for you.
Control the conversation. The more the student can make the interview a conversation, not a question-answer session, the more success they are likely to have. 37
Prepare, but don’ t recite your answers. You can prepare for some questions, including:“Tell us about yourself.” “What do you think has been your biggest achievement or contribution to your high school or your community?” “Why do you want to attend our school?” 38
39 Seems a little silly to even mention this, but students unknowingly put themselves out of the selection for reasons including: not turning off their cell phones, arriving late, dressing inappropriately, behaving rudely, making a bad first impression by slouching（无精打采） ,chewing gum, acting disinterested, and so on.
Follow up. 40 Be sure to mention something discussed in the interview. If you are still interested in attending, show your enthusiasm in the note.
